North Wales - fun, sun, chilly!

Our week is almost over but what an entertaining week it's been, Scarlett has loved every minute and I just wish she was at an age where she'd remember some of it.

We have stayed at a Haven site, Hafan y Mor and I can't fault it. The kids characters are full of fun and now we're at the end of the week Scarlett has certainly taken to Anxious the Elephant.

We've had barbecues, picnics, teas out and numerous ice-creams, I think my gym membership needs digging out for next week. Seriously, my weight has soared and I feel like a balloon. I've not been happy with how I look since I had Scarlett but now she's 2 1/2 I can't really blame pregnancy anymore!!

I certainly recommend the mountain railway trip to Ffestiniog, we had glorious weather and Scarlett loved the 'Choo, Choo ride.' It's about 1h 30 minutes and although quite expensive we had a full day out and had an extremely worn out, but happy, little girl at the end.

We also visited Portmeirion but the weather was damp and grey, luckily we'd visited there before so didn't feel as though we'd missed out, we really just went so Scarlett could go on the tractor/ train. One day me and Pete are going to come and stay at the hotel, there's a special offer on for November of £130 per couple for a night, so watch this space as to whether we book.

All in all we've had a lovely week here, there's so much to do and see that you could never get bored. I love going on holiday, whether it be in this country or abroad - now, where's the travel brochures for September?

Next time... Nursery Place??

Three in a Bed!

The peace lasted until about 2am and then Scarlett joined us in bed. I woke up at one point and I was clinging onto the mattress with one bum cheek, how do I always end up on the edge even now we're in a kingsize bed?

A 6.30am wake up call arrived with shouts of 'the sun is out, up now.' And so our first full day of holiday began.

We decided on a day on the caravan site and picked Sensory Time and Messy Play as our two morning activities. It was the first time Scarlett would meet the dressed up characters, she didn't like it at all, she enjoyed it more when Anxious the Elephant disappeared. She wasn't keen on getting her hands in the shaving foam for sensory time and decided to wipe it all up with kitchen roll instead and swept up the crunchy cornflakes too. I think I've got a Cleaner on my hands!!!

Afternoon was swim time and that was fun, she's not had any swimming lessons but she's confident in the water and likes a good kick of her legs and shows no fear coming down the slides - I, on the other hand, hate swimming and I don't even like getting water on my face. I only go in the pool for Scarlett's sake, I've always disliked pools.

She's also had her first BBQ this evening, her food consisted of barmcakes, waffle and pasta shapes, followed by chocolate roll and jelly. She likes lots of foods but won't try many new things at the minute, her appetite has been good today though with all the fresh air she's had.

Not sure what the plan for tomorrow is, the weather will determine it.

Next time..... Out and about in North Wales

Travel & Tiredness

After a hectic morning rushing around, packing the car and shoving as much in as we could into the Trunki, we finally set off to North Wales.

Scarlett was a dream in the car, sleeping for an hour and being extremely well behaved for the rest. Although before we'd even left our street we had her first swear word, Pete's fault entirely! We had 'oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t' over and over again, well I suppose it had to happen one day.

With about 15 minutes to go until we arrived, we got shouts of 'feel sick, feel sick' from the back. Luckily we had no sick but we've discovered she gets travel sick. The joys!

We had a few tears when we got in the caravan - tiredness had kicked in after a 5.30am wake up call - these parents who's children sleep for 16 hours a night, they lie!!

As soon as we walked in the caravan she asked to go home, but after tea and a bath she soon settled in and actually asked, for the first time ever, could she go to bed. We used the Child's Farm products of Tangerine bubble bath, orange body wash, strawberry shampoo and grapefruit hair detangler. She smelled beautiful and I've got to say the hair detangler has worked a dream on her hair. I'll definitely buy that again. Scarlett keeps wanting me to take the lids off as she loves the smell of them all.

It was a bit of a nightmare getting her to stay in bed but she finally dropped off and we're now enjoying pizza and cider with hopefully a peaceful evening ahead.

Next time... Messy play!

Packing & Organising

Amidst packing for the holiday the weather turned glorious so yesterday we had a great day in the garden. But who else spends more time running in and out of the house for stuff instead of enjoying the sunshine? We'd not been outside two minutes before I decided Scarlett needed sun cream on. Then we had further trips in for two changes of nappy, drinks, a sun hat, changing from trousers to shorts, then I got changed, my sunglasses, more drinks, the scooter, the tent and finally dolly and her bath - at this point we'd been outside only 15 minutes!!

We had good fun eventually though, with the doll's having a party in the tent and me and Scarlett were on homemade ice lollies - a great invention from Annabel Karmel, the lolly mould even comes with it's own holder for them to put the lolly in instead of it getting put on the grass/soil/table (delete as appropriate.)

Because she had shorts and sandals on yesterday she was asking for 'holiday time' every five minutes, telling her it was two days away brought on one of the arms folded and not happy stances but she soon got over it.

So now today is packing day and I don't know where to start, Scarlett is asleep which is good as I'd get nothing done if she was awake but I really must get on with it.

Scarlett is so excited about this trip, we've had songs and dancing all day today - I hope it lives up to her expectations. She's also done her first 'drawing' today - well I know its a tree, the sky, a sun and some flowers - I'll be keeping this one.

On other news our plasterer has let us down twice this week and is now coming while we're away, so we'll be coming home to lots of mess but at least things are slowly moving along. The en suite man has been to have a quick look and we've been measured up for our dressing room. I'm looking forward to no longer being surrounded by stuff and getting everything put away.

Next time ..... Journey to Wales

Coughs and sneezes

Well, another week begins and another cough/ cold is tailing away. I can't tell you how many coughs and colds we get through in our house, and once Scarlett succumbs she is almost invariably sick too. They seem to last forever and just when you think you can't cope with one more sleepless night, or one more disturbed evening, you do. You have that one more, then two more and then it miraculously goes away for about three weeks before it returns again. When does it end? Can anybody tell me that the light at the end of the tunnel will eventually appear. I do get stressed out when she's ill, is it normal? I always think 'I can't cope with this' but I do and I get through it, but I feel on edge about 99% of the time. Surely I should be more chilled out than I am?

Anyway onto the good things - we're off on our holidays this weekend to North Wales. We went when Scarlett was only a few months old so hopefully this time she'll be able to remember some bits of it and have a good time. She doesn't go to playgroup or nursery so seeing other children really excites her, she can't wait to get to the caravan site and play with other little boys and girls.

We've bought her a Trunki for this trip and I don't know who's more excited, me or Scarlett? We've gone for the original pink Trixie one and it's currently living in its cardboard shed in her bedroom. I'm curious to see how much they hold, although for this holiday I think we'll just fill it with books and toys, when we go abroad in September we'll be packing it out with her clothes. I'm hoping too that this is our last holiday with mountains of nappies. They take up so much room. I'm not sure when the potty training is going to begin, she likes to use the toilet now but isn't yet at the stage of telling us she needs to go, although she does let us know when she's done a poo :-) The joys of parenthood!

We've also been trialling some lovely products from Child's Farm - I received a big box in the post to review and they are fab. My daughter has lots (and lots) of curly hair which is always knotty - hair brushing time in our house is not a happy one, so I was delighted when I received the hair detangler to try. We did a few spritzes over her hair and it worked a treat, and smells lovely. There were no tears this time. We've also tried out the hand and body lotion, she has a few patches of dry skin and gets areas of redness with some lotions that are too strong, but this one was lovely - perfect for delicate young skin. We're going to take the sample size bubble bath, nappy cream and shampoo with us on holiday so I'll review those next week. But overall so far - well done Child's Farm your products are great.

Last weekend we visited Thomas the Tank Engine at the shopping centre I work in, I wasn't convinced she'd pose for a photo with the Fat Controller but she loved it. I've said the way to go from now on is no characters dressed up as Peppa etc, real people or stationary objects are to be the order of the day. She happily got aboard Thomas too and was waving at everybody. She really is a happy little girl and I have no idea where she gets her confidence from - it's certainly not me or her Dad, we were really shy as children. I'm glad she's not like me though, I remember being painfully shy around everybody.

We've so much to do this week before we go away as we're still doing a million and one jobs on the house, the plasterer is coming tomorrow night so we're in a makeshift bedroom as of last night and surrounded by boxes. I can't wait for it all to be done and then our weekends won't consist of DIY.

Next time - The holiday!

I'm Back!!

One of my daughter's favourite phrases at the moment 'I'm Back!'

On Monday I suddenly remembered I'd started this blog about 18 months ago to get things off my chest and into some sort of order since my daughter - Scarlett - was born. This morning I decided to search for said blog and re-read my posts. It brought it back just how low I'd felt after her birth and in the following months. I'm happy to say that I had anti-depressants for about 6 months, including a weaning off period, and have never gone back.
I won't say that I'm in top condition but who is, when you have a demanding toddler, life and job to take care of, however I am so much happier than I was.
Anyway enough of dwelling on the past and time to look at the future.
Scarlett is now almost 2 and 1/2 and as manic as ever, she is very funny (at least we all think so) and if she doesn't end up on stage then it would be a loss to society!
We moved house exactly 1 year ago and that made a huge difference to me, I was much nearer to my Mum and it gave me so much more freedom, I am loving where we live now and the park at the bottom of my street is our regular hangout.
Scarlett is learning new words at an alarming rate - this week we've had 'Cheryl' as she heard Pete shout me the other day, and 'cereal' which is her breakfast of choice on some days - although I think it's just because she likes the word, she's also putting groups of family members together so if I tell her she may see cousin Dan today she then asks 'Ellie?' and 'Nanine?' (Nadine, my sister.)
People say that time flies by when they are this age and before I  know it she'll be at school - I don't think time has flown at all, I think the past two years have been a very long process and although I have enjoyed the majority of it, there is not one thing you could give me to make me want to relive that first 12 months. The only bit I'd like to revisit is the day she was born and I would like to remember it better but other than that propel me to her first birthday and I haven't looked back.
I love her to pieces and the 'cug cugs' she gives are the best ever although I'm not too sure about the face licks I get in the morning, Paw Patrol has a lot to answer to.
So, that's a quick update on us and hopefully I'll check in more regularly from now on.
